Trends out of Milan Fashion Week Spring 2011

By

As we close out yet another round of fashion weeks, this go around, Men’s Spring 2011 fall fashions, we may be hitting upon a few what to wear pieces, yet, a majority of the trends may make you run, fast, fast away from spending $500 and onward for the top in the moment fashions.

Men’s fashion is on the forefront, world wide there is a rise in men looking for bespoke tailoring and more on-trend shopping.   I dare say, the worlds top design houses, are a bit too on the “far” front for now, but with more attention garnered at men’s fashion, changes are in the mix.

Here are a few featured design houses, and some of their fashion hits (and fashion misses) for Spring 2011:

Calvin Klein
Oh no, they didn’t go there, cut off tops, exposing the male stomach.  No no no.  This is one of those 80s looks that shan’t ever be revisited.  I’m not even sure the numerous well bodied football stars from this World Cup could even pull it off

Yet, the sand tones grey tones are stand out and definitely something most men can wear.  It’s fresh, easily wearable and classic.  Albeit, the shiny hues don’t often work.

Alexander McQueen
Certainly time marches on, in the wake of McQueen’s death four months ago and the collection was seamless.  Some stand out jackets-outerwear and unstructured blazers showcasing men should not be afraid to wear jackets, the new pullover.  All the more powerful, pairing with baggy trousers.

You may want to stay away from brocade, best left for a period piece movie and not for the streets.

Jil Sanders
Now in his 5th year designing for the house, Raf Simmons, the house continues to showcase its incredible tailoring, a must must for mens suiting and casual.  Yes, the choices of bright hues, often mixed together, canary yellow with hot pink deem a bit too flamboyant for even the most dandy of dandies.

The hits included well-tailored mens suits in dark shades, paired with crisp white shirts.  Always a win win and will continue to be so in 2011.

Burberry
A fashion hit for woman this spring and summer, the trend now shifts towards men, the iconic trench and a strong focus out of this seasons collection.  Based on your frame, the trench can be belted, buttoned or loose and it always dresses up jeans, tees and pullovers.  Perfect for the

The gladiator style open toed sandals won me over.  It works and it pushes the fashion boundaries yet evokes a strong masculine look.  This is a trend to look out for and one your feet should not be ashamed to wear.

One can help see the military references in this collection yet one that should never appear in your closet is the armor-esque, peep through pullovers.  Ever.

To sum up, classical and tailored pieces are on the trend moment, shades of grey and neutral tones.  Jackets are the new pullover, it creates a strong statement. Wear color carefully and don’t be afraid to push the boundaries, pairing your classic look with more fashion forward shoes and accessories (briefcases, yummy).
